Heucheras, Successful Sale, DVC Sale, Our Wish List

Heucheras (Coral Bells)
heucheras_native

Caption

Heucheras have compact evergreen clumps of roundish leaves with scalloped edges. Their slender, wiry 1 to 2 1/2 foot stems bear loose clusters of nodding bell shaped flowers. Dainty blossoms are long lasting in arrangements and are attractive to hummingbirds. Color range includes carmine, crimson, red, coral, rose pink, greenish, and white. Bloom time is between early spring and late summer with some varieties continuing into fall. While some Heucheras are California natives, there are many recent introductions of hybrids that are grown more for leaf color than for floral display. They are frequently used in rock gardens, as ground covers, in borders, or as an edging in front of taller perennials. Grow them in well drained rich soil in light sun/light shade and give regular water. Divide every 3 to 4 years in spring or fall. Replant the young vigorous division. Discard older woody rootstocks. Heucheras are easy to propagate from cuttings in spring.

All of the Heucheras we have for sale in gallons are California natives (see pictures above):
·      Lillian's Pink – profusion of pink flowers
·      Maxima – greenish white to pale pink
·      Old LaRochette – pale pink
·      Wendy – meny rosy pink blooms

We also have a few assorted hybrid Heucheras for sale in 4" containers.

Successful "Early Spring Plant Sale"…Thanks

Thanks to all the customers who supported our Early Spring Plant Sale last Saturday. We considered it a success and only wish we had more to sell. We definitely will have more of the plants you want as the weather warms up and our propagation programs begin producing more and bigger plants. If you can't make our Tuesday Plant Sale, we look forward to seeing you at our next Saturday Plant Sale, April 5th.

DVC Plant Sale this Saturday
The DVC Horticulture Department will be holding its first Plant Sale of the year this Saturday – 9 am to 1pm at DVC's Pleasant Hill Campus, 321 Golf Course Road (behind the parking lot and tennis courts) (map). Most of our Nursery volunteers take and/or have taken Horticulture classes at DVC. DVC's Plant Sale selection is wide and the prices are great. (Editor's note: as part of the requirements for his DVC's Plant Production class this semester, your trusty e-mail editor will be there bright and early to help you…. look for a balding, glasses, fireplug plant geek )

Our Wish List

If your succulents are doing well and you could spare some cuttings, we would appreciate your donations as our selection needs an upgrade and replenishment.
