Lawn Out—Nature In!
A Practical Approach to a Waterwise and Natural Garden
by Troy McGregor

troy

Does the drought have you thinking of replacing that thirsty lawn with a more sustainable solution? Troy McGregor, owner of Garden Natives Nursery in Martinez and a frequent vendor at Markham's Saturday plant sales, has some strategies to help you. Troy's informative presentation will cover the various options for lawn removal, drainage, irrigation and native plant selection. You are sure to leave with a fresh perspective on how a front yard should look and function.

The MRAS is taking a forward move on sponsoring (along with Contra Costa Water District) the
program above to help you and your garden to survive the all but certain drought and upcoming
water rationing. More on the Markham Regional Arboretum Society can be found at
www.markhamarboretum.org, and more on the drought and Contra Costa Water District is at
www.ccwater.com.

Many of you know and/or have met Troy (left) at our Saturday sales as that "funny speaking" Australian selling California native plants. I've heard him make public presentations so the program will be good… give it a spin. For some examples of Troy's work see his web site
www.gardennatives.com, with his own new front garden and especially his new blog. You won't be disappointed. We will be sending our usual weekly email within the next several days.

All for now… see you soon at the Markham Nursery?

Tuesday's 9am–12noon is our normal Plant Sale time for the next several winter months.
The date for our first 2009 Saturday Plant Sale is March 7th. We have now set our Saturday
Plant Sale schedule for the year; see below.
Call ahead if the weather seems problematical as we won't be open Tuesdays during inclement
weather. There is usually someone in the office on Tuesday mornings.
You can also call (925-681-2968) or e-mail us if you have something special you are looking for
and we'll see what we can do. Providing a telephone number and email address will help us
respond faster.
